💎 Why This Recipe Works
- You only need the oven to cook these ranch potatoes - save a rack and prepare some garlic parmesan smashed potatoes too!
- Half a ranch seasoning packet and fresh herbs separate regular roasted potatoes from this delicious side dish!
- Their cooking time is 25 minutes in a preheated oven or 20 minutes in the air fryer! Both methods are described below, and are the same as per our Mexican potatoes!
🛒 Ingredients
- Potatoes: Choose baby potatoes or small potatoes (such as baby Yukon Gold or red potatoes). These potatoes are waxy, great for holding texture when cooked, and work wonders when roasted. Russet potatoes' high starch content helps them develop a crispy exterior and fluffy interior when baked or roasted, so will work too.
- Ranch Seasoning: We use Hidden Valley seasoning, not ranch dressing for this recipe. You can use other brands too, or prepare your own - I share a quick substitute recipe in the FAQs below.

♻️ Substitutions and Variations
- Herbs: I like to add green onions and fresh parsley to these ranch potatoes, however, other combinations taste delicious too. The garlic tones of ranch complement cilantro and thinly chopped red onions, and you could also add a little chili powder to the potatoes before roasting them.
- Toppings: Once the potatoes are ready, you can add some crispy bacon bits and cheese on top of them, and place them back in the oven until the cheese has melted. This is something I like to do with leftovers!

Yes, you can still make this recipe! Simply mix dried dill, parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in equal parts to taste. Toss the dry seasoning with olive oil, then coat the potatoes before roasting.
Good dipping sauces include sour cream, ketchup, barbecue sauce, spicy mayo, and blue cheese dressing. These enhance the potatoes' flavor with creamy or tangy notes.
Store the ranch potatoes in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days. For longer storage, freeze them spread out on a baking sheet before transferring them to a freezer bag for up to 3 months. Reheat the potatoes in the oven at 400°F (200°C) until hot and crispy, about 10-15 minutes. Thaw them overnight in the fridge if frozen.

Crispy Ranch Potatoes (In the Oven or Air Fryer)
Ingredients
- 500 g Potatoes
- 1 tablespoon Olive Oil
- ½ Packet Ranch Seasoning I used Hidden Valley
- 2 Green Onions Washed and Chopped
- 2 tablespoon Fresh Parsley Washed and Thinly Chopped
- Salt and Pepper to Taste
Instructions
IF USING THE OVEN:
- Set your oven to 400°F (200°C). This high temperature ensures the potatoes get a nice, crispy exterior.
PREPARATION
- Wash the potatoes thoroughly and cut them into even-sized pieces to ensure uniform cooking. Baby potatoes can be left whole or halved depending on size, while larger potatoes may need to be quartered into small pieces. Place the potatoes in a large bowl.
- In a small bowl, mix olive oil, half a packet of ranch seasoning and add salt and pepper to taste.
- Pour the ranch mixture over the potatoes, and mix until evenly coated.
IN THE OVEN:
- Spread the potatoes in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 15 minutes then stir for even crispiness. Bake a further 10 minutes or until tender and golden brown.
IN THE AIR FRYER
- Place the seasoned potatoes in the air fryer basket. Ensure they are in a single layer, as these will make them cook evenly and crisp up all around. If they don't all fit, cook them in batches.
- Air fry for about 10 minutes. Then shake the basket for even browning, and cook for a further 8-10 minutes, or until cooked thoroughly.
- If you have the Max Crisp function, you use it during the last 3-4 minutes of cooking for super crispy potatoes.
GARNISHING
- Once ready, sprinkle the chopped green onions and fresh parsley over the hot potatoes, tossing to combine. The residual heat will gently soften the herbs and onions, releasing their flavors.
- Taste the ranch potatoes for seasoning and add more salt if required.
- Serve while still hot with your main course of choice!
Notes
- Homemade Ranch Seasoning: Mix dried dill, parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in equal parts.
- Storage and Reheating: Store the ranch potatoes in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days. For longer storage, freeze them spread out on a baking sheet before transferring them to a freezer bag for up to 3 months. Reheat the potatoes in the oven at 400°F (200°C) until hot and crispy, about 10-15 minutes. Thaw them overnight in the fridge if frozen.
